This map was developed with community partners and is designed to make it easier for people to find food support in Gloucestershire. Food Bank
A food bank provides free emergency food parcels to people in crisis who are unable to afford food. Parcels usually contain enough food for several days and may also include toiletries or other essential items. Access to a food bank is often via referral from a professional or support agency.
Food Pantry
A food pantry is a membership-based food club where people can choose food in a shop-style setting at a reduced cost. Members usually pay a small weekly fee and can select a set number of items, helping to stretch household budgets.
Community Fridge
A community fridge is a shared space where surplus food is available for anyone to take for free. People can also donate food for others to take, helping reduce food waste and support the local community.
Lunch Club
Lunch clubs are friendly, welcoming spaces that provide a fresh, cooked meal alongside hot and cold drinks and opportunities to socialise. They are often aimed at older people (typically aged 55+), usually charge a small fee per meal, and some can offer transport to and from the venue.
Community Eating Space
Community eating spaces provide free, low-cost, or pay-as-you-can meals and/or drinks in a welcoming environment. Meals are often eaten together with others, and some services also offer takeaway options.
Children and Families Food Support
Food support provided specifically for children, young people and families. This includes holiday activity and food programmes, breakfast clubs, after-school meals, and other projects providing meals, groceries or food-related support to children and families.
Cooking Project
Cooking projects provide access to kitchen facilities and food-related activities, including cooking classes, skills-building sessions, shared meal preparation, or community catering projects.
Growing Project
Growing projects are community-led initiatives that focus on growing food and connecting people with where food comes from. This includes community gardens, allotments, orchards, community-supported agriculture, agroecological projects, growing networks, and education projects around sustainable food and farming.
Other
This is a broad category for food-related support that does not fit into the categories above. This may include voucher schemes, advice and support services, local authority provision, food co-operatives, food delivery services, or coordination and network organisations.
